Clinical Pilates is Pilates-based exercise prescribed and guided by a physiotherapist. It starts with an assessment of how you move, then uses targeted Pilates exercises to build strength, stability, mobility and control, with each exercise chosen for a reason.
It’s a good fit if you’re dealing with back or pelvic pain, getting back into exercise after an injury, going through pregnancy or postpartum recovery, or noticing changes in strength and confidence through menopause. You don’t need any Pilates experience to start.
Sessions can also include hands-on manual therapy when it helps your treatment.
Your program is shaped around what you need right now and changes as you progress. People commonly come to us for :
Build strength, stability and confidence while working on the movement habits that may be adding to your pain or discomfort.
Improve body awareness, mobility, coordination and how efficiently you move, at work, at home and in your workouts.
Support your changing body through pregnancy and after birth with movement and strengthening chosen for where you are.
A healthy pelvic floor needs more than strength — it also needs coordination, mobility, and the ability to relax. We assess how your pelvic floor is functioning and tailor treatment to what your body actually needs.

Clinical Pilates FAQs
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is Pilates-based exercise that’s assessed, prescribed and guided by a physiotherapist. Unlike a general class, each exercise is chosen to help with your specific pain, injury, life stage or movement goals.
Is Clinical Pilates covered by insurance?
Because it’s delivered by a registered physiotherapist, Clinical Pilates is billed as physiotherapy, so many extended health plans that cover physio will cover it. We can direct bill eligible plans. Coverage varies, so check your plan’s physiotherapy benefits before your visit.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. You can book directly with a physiotherapist in Ontario without a referral. Some insurance plans ask for one before they’ll reimburse, so it’s worth checking your policy.
I've never done Pilates. Can I still start?
Can Clinical Pilates help with lower back pain?
Many people come to Clinical Pilates for low back and pelvic pain. Sophia assesses how you move, then builds strength, stability and control around the patterns that may be contributing to your pain.
Can I do Clinical Pilates while pregnant or after having a baby?
Yes. Prenatal and postpartum Clinical Pilates is tailored to your stage of pregnancy or recovery, and Sophia adjusts exercises as your body changes. If you have pregnancy complications, check with your doctor or midwife before starting.

How is this different from a regular Pilates class?
A regular class follows one plan for everyone. Clinical Pilates begins with a physiotherapy assessment, is one-on-one, and focuses on what your body needs, with a physiotherapist explaining the why behind each exercise.
How much does Clinical Pilates cost?
The initial 60-minute assessment is $175. Follow-up sessions are $150 for 60 minutes or $100 for 30 minutes. The 15-minute virtual discovery call is free.
Do I have to buy a package?
No. Sessions are booked one at a time, so you can get started without committing to a package.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals and how your body responds. Sophia will recommend how often to come and roughly how many sessions to plan for after your initial assessment.
