Areas of practice
You don't have to carry it alone.
A few of the things our Ottawa clients bring to the room. If yours isn’t here, it still belongs here.
Fertility & Pregnancy Loss
Trying, choosing not to, loss — and everything in between. The grief that doesn’t have a name. The strain on your relationship and your sense of self.
Relationships & Family Dynamics
The ups and downs of partnership. Navigating separation, divorce, and co-parenting. Learning what you need and how to ask for it.
Trauma & PTSD
Healing at your pace, in a space that actually feels safe. Medical gaslighting, childhood experiences, gender-based and relationship trauma.
Chronic Pain & Illness
Endometriosis, fibromyalgia, ADHD, pelvic pain. The grief of a new diagnosis. The exhaustion of explaining yourself to doctors who don’t listen.
Anxiety, Stress & Low Mood
Tools for the everyday weight, and the heavier seasons. Racing thoughts, burnout, depression — we help you find solid ground again.
Grief & Life Transitions
Losing a person, a relationship, a version of yourself, or a future you’d planned on. The in-between moments nobody talks about.
Gender Identity & 2SLGBTQ+
Affirming care for every stage of life. Youth in discovery, adults exploring, seniors of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community. No script, no judgment.
Self-Worth & Burnout
Boundaries, people-pleasing and learning to take up space. Reconnecting with what you actually want — and believing you deserve it.

Understanding the service
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is an evidence-based treatment that helps address mental health concerns, emotional challenges, and life stressors through structured sessions with a Registered Social Worker. At Femade, our therapists specialise in women’s health and provide compassionate, patient-centred care to support lasting emotional well-being.
Psychotherapy is a structured, evidence-based treatment for mental health conditions, emotional difficulties, and life challenges. Sessions are conducted one-on-one with a Registered Social Worker — a regulated health professional with specialised training in therapeutic techniques and human behaviour. Unlike general wellness coaching, psychotherapy uses clinically validated frameworks to assess and treat patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour that are affecting your daily life, relationships, or functioning.
The goal is lasting, measurable change — not just symptom relief. At Femade, our psychotherapists specialise in women’s health, meaning they bring direct clinical experience with the conditions, systems, and social pressures that disproportionately affect women and gender-diverse people.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?
Counselling typically addresses specific, present-moment concerns and is usually shorter in duration. Psychotherapy is a deeper, clinically regulated process that examines underlying patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour — and uses evidence-based therapeutic frameworks to change them. At Bravella Health – A Femade Clinic, our therapists are Registered Social Workers trained in psychotherapy. Sessions are 50 minutes, structured, and guided by a clinical treatment plan.
Is psychotherapy covered by insurance in Ontario?
Most extended health benefit plans in Ontario include coverage for psychotherapy or registered social work services. Coverage amounts and eligibility criteria vary by insurer and plan. We recommend contacting your benefits provider before your first session to confirm the coverage category (some plans list it as “social work”, others as “psychotherapy”). We provide itemised receipts for reimbursement or direct submission.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No referral is required to book psychotherapy at Bravella Health – A Femade Clinic. You can contact us directly and get started right away. Some insurance plans require a physician referral for reimbursement — if that applies to your plan, we can help you identify what documentation is needed.
How is virtual therapy different from in-person?
Research consistently shows that virtual psychotherapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person sessions for most presentations, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, PHIPA-compliant video platform and are available to anyone in Ontario. In-person sessions are held at our Ottawa clinic at 1335 Carling Avenue. You can move between the two formats as your circumstances change.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your presenting concerns, their duration and complexity, and how your nervous system responds to treatment. After your initial assessment, your therapist will give you an honest, realistic estimate. Most people begin with weekly sessions, transitioning to biweekly as progress is made. There is no required minimum or package commitment — the plan is reviewed and adjusted with you regularly.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't work?
A poor experience with therapy is more common than people think — and it is rarely a reflection of the person seeking help. Therapeutic fit, modality, and timing all affect outcomes. At Bravella Health – A Femade Clinic, we start by understanding what has and hasn’t worked before, and we tailor the approach accordingly. The free discovery call exists specifically for this reason — to establish fit before you commit to a full session.
